Political High Jinks...me??? Never.....:)

Have you ever had an off the cuff comment take on a life of its own?? Well that definitely happened to me this week....Monday morning my good friend Donna, who is also uncharacteristically unemployed like myself, told me the story of how "as a joke" she stole her friend Dee's Obama/Biden sign from her front yard and replaced it with a McCain sign. Dee in turn altered the McCain sign and placed it back in her yard.

Donna explained she was trying to think of something else she could do to tease Dee further and I, who naturally have such a creative mind, jokingly suggested that she should go buy one of those cute scarecrows and McCain mask I had seen at the store and put it in her front yard. OMG....Donna loved the idea and before I knew it I was with her at the store the next day helping her pick it out.

So now I have you thinking oh yeah that will be funny we all get a good laugh and so on....what we didn't know was that while we were at the store putting our little plan in to action Dee was at home reading the morning paper where she came across an article in Diane Bells column about political signs being stolen where she lives. Dee emailed Diane Bell her story and a picture of her sign and quickly received a reply email from Diane commenting on her situation.

So while Dee is safely tucked away in her home corresponding with the "Union Tribune" we are outside putting our little guy in her front yard. Triumphant and laughing hysterically we go on our way to goof off for the rest of the afternoon. When we return to Donna's house a few hours later she checks her email and finds Dee copied her on a string of emails to Diane Bell including one with a picture of the Scarecrow she had just discovered!!!!!!

Well below is an excerpt from Diane Bells column in the today's Union Tribune...who would have guessed that by weeks end we would have become celebrity political pranksters!! Maybe Donna and I should add that to our resume...at this point it can't hurt!! Dee still has no idea where the scarecrow came from Donna said she will tell her after the election is over I have included some pictures for your enjoyment!!!

Love to all....Lori

Political high jinks
Whether because of dirty politics, teenage pranksters or Halloween goblins, the theft of election yard signs in Rancho Peñasquitos would have filled a police log book this week.
No sooner did Joy Chidgey complain that her McCain-Palin sign had disappeared last weekend (as had those of several neighbors) than Dee Durbin had a counter complaint. She also lives in Rancho Peñasquitos and her Obama-Biden sign had been replaced by a McCain-Palin sign.
Rather than purchase a new Obama sign, Durbin decided to make the best of a bad situation. She added a large “NO” symbol in front of the renegade McCain-Palin sign.
“I would prefer to show my support for the Obama-Biden ticket positively,” said Durbin, “but the thief left me no choice.”
Peace didn't last long. Two days later, Durbin found a scarecrow stuck in her lawn dressed in a suit and tie, wearing a John McCain Halloween mask and sporting pro-McCain-Palin slogans.
Durbin made two Obama signs and, this time, she hammered them to a tree. “I will keep putting them up, if necessary, until the election,” she vowed, adding that stealing is the wrong way to show support for a candidate.
Fellow Rancho Peñasquitos resident Matthew O'Brien also reports an Obama yard sign stolen Sunday. Given the conservative reputation of his neighborhood, he had bought several signs in anticipation of their disappearance. He later recovered one of his missing Obama signs “down the street in less than perfect condition.”
O'Brien's solution? He taped his yard sign to his palm tree 10 feet off the ground.
Jess Durfee, chairman of the county Democratic Party, says, “We are having tons of people coming in to buy new signs who are saying, 'I'm putting the next one on my roof.' ” Things seem to be more heated than in past elections, he adds.
Tony Krvaric, his local GOP counterpart, says he, likewise, has had more complaints of pilfered signs than ever before. Among hot spots were Poway and Scripps Ranch, where someone spray-painted out McCain signs. So great was the replacement demand that his office ran out of McCain-Palin yard signs and had to order 2,500 more this week.
